Duward "Dewey" Oden, age 85, of Poyen passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 at his home. He was born April 27, 1928, in Hamburg, Arkansas, the son of Thomas Franklin and Velma Stanley Oden. Dewey was a self-employed TV repairman for 15 years. He was retired from the United States Army serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars where he received the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Unit Citation with Palm, National Defense Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal with Sixth Award, United Nations Service Medal, Air Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a world class gardener, 32nd degree Mason, and of the Baptist Faith. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Left to cherish his memory, wife, whom he married on November 7, 1952, Sarah Archer Oden; sons, R.L. Oden (Sheri) of Malvern and Lynn Oden (Cindy) of Poyen; brother, Junior Oden (Veralyn) of Hamburg; sisters, Tommie Williamson (Paul) of Alvin, Texas and Lois Williams (Donald) of Crossett, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Cliffie Oden of Alexander, Arkansas; grandchildren, David Oden, Danny Oden, Madison Oden, Cole Oden, Jake Sharp, and Jessica Mathis; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 14th from 6:00-8:00pm at Regency Funeral Home.
Service will be Thursday, November 15th at 2:00pm at Regency Funeral Home Chapel with Brother John Owens officiating. Burial will be at Lindsey-Poyen Cemetery with full Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Robbie Robertson, Norman Oden, Ronnie Robertson, Tony Geurin, and Doyle Oden. Honorary Pallbearer will be Dr. Bruce Burton. The family will be at 204 East 4th Street, in Poyen.
