Obituary

Billy Lavan Alston, 87, passed away in the early morning of Monday, April 10, 2023.  Bill was a long-time resident of Malvern and a member of North Malvern Assembly of God Church, where he served as a deacon for many years.  He worked as head of maintenance for the Malvern Housing Authority until retirement at the age of 78.  Bill has been recognized as a Hometown Hero due to his caring and giving disposition to his community.  He was interviewed by a television reporter because he was the oldest living former employee of the Ritz Theater.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie Francis who he was married to for over 62 ½ years, also by his mother and stepdad, Retha and Austin Williams; father, Ed Alston and a grandson-in-love, Michael Jimerson.

His biggest accomplishment was that of being a dad to Glenn Alston and wife Marsha; Debbie Clark and husband, John; and Gary Alston and wife Laura.  Oh, but his greatest accomplishment was being granddad to Chris Alston and wife, Janice, Adam Alston, Kasey Jimerson, Chelsea MaHaffey and husband Caleb, Billie Hall and husband Matt, Guy Clark, Macah Alston and wife Magen, Caleb Alston and wife Jaci, Tyger Alston and wife Morgan, Shelby Osborn, Logan Auffet and wife Tegan.  Granddad had 22 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and two more on the way.  A cousin, who was like a sister, Betty Mason of Malvern.

Services will be held on Thursday, April 13 at 12:00pm at Regency Funeral Home with Reverend Keith Pennington officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.  Burial will follow at Lone Hill Cemetery.  Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank Kelly Alston, Hospice and the wonderful staff at Encore of Malvern.  They took excellent care of our beloved granddad and allowed the family to come in and out at all hours to be close to him.  May his love for Jesus Christ be a witness to all who knew and loved him.  Bill would say Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord.
