Carolyn
Pennington
Mar 23, 1937 — Feb 5, 2022
Malvern
Elizabeth Carolyn Pennington, 84, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at her home in Malvern, Arkansas. After a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, she has laid down her sorrows to be with her Lord and Savior in Heaven. Carolyn leaves a legacy as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She was born March 23, 1937, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to Dewey Austin Ledbetter and Oma Lee (Hamm) Ledbetter McNeely.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters and their spouses: Evangeline and Doc Bailey, Inez and Wilbert Manning, Orbazene and Clayton Strother, and Bobbie and Wayne Simmons.
Carolyn and James enjoyed over 66 years of marriage – a true union of family and a legacy of love. She always loved spending time with family and friends; especially with her granddaughters, Annie and Emily. Before her health began to fail, she enjoyed traveling, crocheting, quilting, cooking, gardening, and shopping. She was an active member of First Assembly of God pioneering its children's ministries with Judy Moore and serving several years as the church secretary. Carolyn later worked at the Malvern Daily Record; the Hot Spring County Health Department as a Certified Nurse Assistant; and as a private caregiver. She loved caring for people, particularly the elderly. She made many dear friends as she cared for people all over the county.
Survivors are her devoted husband, James Pennington; her daughter, Carla Crutchfield; granddaughters Annie (Jeremy) Wasson and Emily Crutchfield; great-grandson William Wasson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday February 8, from 6 until 8PM at Regency.
Carolyn's homegoing celebration will be officiated by Judy Moore on Wednesday, February 9 at Regency Funeral Home in Malvern at 10AM. Burial will follow at Gilchrist Cemetery in Friendship, Arkansas, concluding with a reception for family and friends at Friendship Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Wasson, Chuck Pennington, Justin Pennington, Ryan Pennington, Blake Pennington, and Dustin Morrison.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Strother, David Strother, David Givens, Bill McDaniel, Ron Jordan, and Rick Southworth.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Kindred Hospice for their excellent care; especially Gaye and Gabby. A special thank you to Ron and Toni and the many dear friends and family that showed their love and care through these last years.
