Colleen Smith Capps, age 85, of Hot Springs, AR, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born on September 19, 1937 to Kenneth & Corine Wiley Smith in Forrester, AR. After graduating from Magnet Cove High School in 1956, she went on to work for Southwestern Bell. She worked there until the birth of her first child, Jerry Don. After her children were grown, she went back to work at the Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center where she worked for over 20 years. She took pride in her job and enjoyed being a houseparent. Colleen was a lifelong member of Shorewood Hills United Methodist Church and loved her church family. She was married for 60 years to James (Buddy) Capps, who predeceased her in November of 2019. She was also predeceased by her parents and brother, Kenneth Don Smith.
Colleen is survived by her son, Jerry Don Capps of Malvern, AR; daughters, Debbie Knox (husband, Kenny) of Pearcy, AR and Karen Capps (partner, Kristin) of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Kayla Knox Kirk (husband, Cory) of McKinney, TX and Kamryn Knox of Pearcy, AR; great grandchildren, Maverick Kirk, Maclaren Kirk & Maxwell Kirk of McKinney, TX.
Meme, as her granddaughters called her, loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She treasured family gatherings, sitting on her front porch and tending to her beautiful flowers. She will be greatly missed by all.
Services will be held Saturday, December 17 at 10:00am at Regency Funeral Home with Reverend Tammy Harrell officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Rockport Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Goines, Bryan Bennett, Rex Barker, Johnny Lee Wiley, Kamryn Knox and Kenny Knox. Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Stewart, Brookfield Assisted Living Staff and Shorewood Hills United Methodist Church family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shorewood Hills United Methodist Church.
