Obituary

On October 21, 1941, Elizabeth Ann Chenault was born at home to Claude Lee and Mary Ann Cogburn of Lono, Arkansas. Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, the little Lono Church, and a very active telephone party line kept her from getting into much trouble. Elizabeth got her first teaching job at Rural Dale when she was 19 years old. Her fiery Autumn hued hair attracted the attention of a young coach, Donald Chenault. They married on March 9, 1962 and spent 55 years together before being parted by death. They were reunited on November 14, 2022, when Lib joined Don in Heaven.

Her love of children and teaching led her to positions in Sheridan, Poyen, and Malvern Public Schools from which she retired in 1994.

A faithful member of Third Baptist Church, she turned from elementary school to Sunday School and taught the Sunshine class in the last decades of her life. She enjoyed hosting church parties, family reunions, and holiday celebrations. Her flowers and yard decorations drew visitors from all over town.

To our mother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend, we say, "Well done, and hold us a place at the picnic."

Elizabeth leaves behind two siblings, Patsy McDermott and Larry Cogburn; four children and their spouses: Terri Verrette, Kerrie (Sam) and Dean Hughes, Cheryl and Tim McCarver, and David Chenault; six grandchildren: Justin Hughes, Hayley Hughes, Jordan McCarver, Jared McCarver, Michael Verrette, and Tucker Verrette; four great-grandchildren Ryan and Erroll Hughes, and Claire and Finley Jane McCarver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Regency Funeral Home on Thursday, November 17 from 6 to 8 pm.

The memorial service will be held on Friday, November 18 at 2:00 pm at Third Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Jordan McCarver, Jared McCarver, Michael Verrette, Tucker Verrette, Justin Hughes, and Jeff McDermott. Honorary pall bearers are Tim McCarver and Dean Hughes. David Chenault will be the honor escort at the graveside service in Lono Cemetery immediately following the memorial.
