Joyce Hassen passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021 at Happy Valley Nursing Home in Malvern. She was born in Rison, Arkansas on April 24, 1932. She was 89 years old.

She was the daughter of D. B. and Gladys (O'Kelley) Cummings. She graduated from Arkadelphia High School in 1949. She married Jack Bryan Thomasson of Arkadelphia. They had a daughter named Terry Ann Thomasson and a son named Joseph Baron. The kid's birthdays were both on May 8 four years apart. Joyce always claimed that was real "family planning." Baron and Jack preceded her in death. She worked for Southwestern Bell in Arkadelphia, Little Rock and Houston, Texas.  She started her career as an operator then became a service rep and then was promoted to Business Office Manager. She was employed by Ma Bell for 39 years and 9 months.

She married Sam Hassen in 2000. She and Sam were both members of Bismarck Pentecostal Church which they loved and generously supported. Sam passed away in August of 2017.

She is survived by her daughter, Terry Ann Thomasson; grandson, Timothy B. Thomasson and his wife Elizabeth. Tim is a Chief in the US Navy. He is stationed in South Carolina where he trains sailors on the operations of nuclear reactors. She is also survived by her two great-grandchildren, Jackson Baron Thomasson and Eleanor Mae Thomasson. Her only remaining sibling is her half-brother, Clifton Parker of Arkadelphia. She has many nieces and nephews.  For many years she has had two very special friends in Houston, Texas named Marilyn Demarco and Joyce Wood.

The family wishes to offer special thanks to Joyce's niece Kim McCall of Jacksonville, Florida. Kim always sent Joyce a card or a plant or called her on the phone for every holiday and birthday. Kim never forgot to stay in contact with her Aunt Joyce and for that the family is very grateful.

Graveside services will be held Monday, October 11 at 2:00pm at Oak Bower Cemetery with Brother Van Glidewell officiating.
