Obituary

Marita Diane Jones, age 86, of Friendship, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. She was born on September 5, 1938, in Camden, Arkansas, to Homer and Emeleene Sharpe.

Marita worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Gibson's Discount Center. She later continued her career with McClure Real Estate and Kennerly Construction, where she eventually retired. She took great pride in her work and was known for her dedication and attention to detail. Outside of work, Marita enjoyed spending time in her yard and tending to her flowerbeds. She loved the adventure of trying new restaurants, though Red Lobster always remained her favorite. A devoted sports fan, she especially cherished cheering on her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren in their athletic pursuits. For many years, Marita also played softball, remembered fondly for her unique and skillful pitching in local leagues. She was a member of South Main Missionary Baptist Church in Malvern.

Marita was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Emeleene Sharpe; her daughter, Kaye White (George Thurber).

She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Nathan; her sisters, Gale Kennerly (Bill) and Glenda Thomas (Lenard "Rip"); her brother, Dale "Bud" Sharpe; her children, Kathy Phillips (Randy) and Butch Jones (Kellie); six grandchildren, Tina White, Angie Allmon (Jason), Pate White (Crystal), Nikki Thornton (Ryan), Kaitlyn Roberts (Austin), and Grant Jones; six great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
