Orman Wallis, 86, of Malvern passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Arbor Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born January 13, 1936, in Malvern, the son of the late Alfred and Roxie Orman Wallis.  Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Janet Godwin Wallis; sister, Helen Wallis Martin and three infant sisters.

Orman is survived by his daughter, Sue Ellen Dillard (Pat) of El Dorado; grandchildren, John Wallis Dillard of El Dorado and Samantha Meghan Culwell (Blaine) of Warren and great grandchildren, Audrey and Lillian of Warren.

He grew up working in the timber woods with his dad who owned and worked ground hog sawmills around south Arkansas. He especially enjoyed reminiscing about the summer he spent with his dad in Chidester harvesting tupelo gum. While in high school FFA, he started his first agricultural endeavor: a commercial hog operation with a gilt from Sears and Roebuck. He grew this into a profitable operation until he was drafted into the Army in 1959.

He owned and operated Orman Wallis Lime and Fertilizer for 46 years and 6 days.  He always made sure to add the 6 days to the statement.  He hauled lime and fertilizer all over southwest Arkansas. He especially enjoyed telling stories of his early days of hauling lime in the communities of Mount Ida, Norman and Mountain Pine and other small communities. By the end of his career, his main customers were the row crop farmers of the Ouachita Delta as agriculture had changed from small family farms in the mountain areas to larger row crop farms in the delta.

He also owned a commercial cattle farm.  He loved his farm and worked that land from overgrown timber to a profitable cattle operation over the course of his life.  In 1982, his family was selected Hot Spring County Farm Family of the year and was also selected as the Southwest District Farm Family that same year.  He passed his love of all things agriculture to his daughter and his grandchildren. He served on the boards of the Hot Spring County 4-H Foundation, Hot Spring County Farm Bureau, the Farmers Co-Op, Hot Spring County Fair Board and was a past president of the Hot Spring County Cattlemen's Association.

Services will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 2:00pm at Regency Funeral Home with Brother Mark Thornton officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.  Burial will follow at Cooper Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Dillard, Blaine Culwell, James Stinnet, Jesse Clark, Jay Wallace and Floyd Alexander.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ledbetter, Harold Keeney, Charlie Keeney, Ronnie Wallace, Scott Wallace and Don Sears.
