Paul David Fitzgerald, DDS, known to many as “Doc” or “Fitz,” of Sheridan, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026 at the age of 90.

Paul was born on January 2, 1936, to E.R. Fitzgerald and Amanda Ruth Edwards Fitzgerald. His life was shaped by the people he loved, the work he found meaningful, and the community he proudly served.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth (Jack) Bunch and his brothers, Raymond (Viola) Fitzgerald and Dennis Fitzgerald.

Paul is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Penny Webb; his son, David Fitzgerald (Dawn Fiser); his daughters, Lori (Scott) Heller, Christy (Mark) Wells, Autumn (Brandon) Henry and Kristin (Rob) Daniel; and his sister-in-law, June Fitzgerald. Among his most cherished were his grandchildren; Kara Wells, Christian Schumacher, Grayson and Addison Henry, Bryce and Charlotte Daniel and many nieces and nephews.

Fitz lived a wonderfully full life. He participated in ROTC and graduated from Sheridan High School before earning his undergraduate degree from Ouachita Baptist University. He later attended the University of Tennessee, where he completed dental school. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Dental Corps.

Deeply committed to the Sheridan community, Paul was a founding member of First National Bank, Sheridan Nursing and Rehabilitation and Delta Dental. He was Chairman of the Sheridan Water Commission and a member of the Sheridan Rotary Club. He was perhaps most memorably one of the founding and lifelong members of the Sheridan Country Club. Anyone who knew him knew he was raised in the church. He never missed a chance to talk about his Bible knowledge in one of the many Bible studies he helped to lead.

Fitz had the privilege of owning and operating his dental practice for 50 years. If you were fortunate enough to be one of his patients, you were always greeted by his big smile and kind blue eyes while sitting in his chair. Before you left, he never missed the opportunity to tell you, “Glad you got to see me.”

When he wasn’t working, you could usually find him on a golf course—or traveling to experience a hunting trip of a lifetime. He will be remembered as a staple of the Sheridan community, always willing to lend a helping hand and equally willing to meet you at the golf course on a Friday afternoon.

Paul loved the Lord, his work and his hobbies, but the roles he treasured most were being a husband, father, and Poppy. His family will forever cherish his laugh, his sense of humor, and, most of all, his hugs.

They take comfort in knowing that he truly is “finer than frog hair split four ways” now that he is finally resting high on the mountain with his Lord and Savior.

A memorial will be held October 8, 2026 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens in Sheridan. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice Home Care, 2200 South Bowman Road STE. A, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211.
