Thomas Vaughn Lackey, 77, of Malvern, passed away at home with his wife and granddaughter by his side, on Friday, November 8, 2024. "Tommy" was born December 5, 1946 to Harry and Gniece Canada Lackey. Thomas was a US Army Veteran, serving from March 1966 to June 1969, and in Saigon during the Vietnam War.
Thomas was ordained as a Missionary Baptist minister in June 1983 by Damascus Missionary Baptist Church, and pastored churches in the area for 38 years, until his health began to decline. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing his guitar, but most of all spending time with his girls, grandkids, and great grandkids, who all called him Papaw.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Harold Wilson, and a granddaughter Nicole "Nikki" Clara Van Acker.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Nutt Lackey, of over 59 years, daughters, Sherrie Hale (Donald Chambers) and Brenda Harmon (John); grandchildren, Kristen Craig (Joshua), Tommy Steuart (Mandy), Kacie Van Acker (Alan Geer), Grace Harmon (CJ Haynie), and Faith Harmon (Colton Brunke-Brown); great-grandchildren, Cayden Darrow, Gabby and Kyleigh Swayze, Izzy Steuart, Lee Massey, Hanna Barnes, Kayla and Emma Craig, Lilith and Serena Geer, and Greyson and Loni Ruth; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene Lackey (Geneva), of Sanger, TX, and Jim Lackey (Bonnie), of Sagle, ID; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Visitation will be at Regency Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 12th from 6-8 PM.
Funeral services will be held at Regency Funeral Home on Wednesday November 13th at 10:00 AM with Bro. Rickey Poyner and Bro. Brad Warren officiating. Burial will be at Damascus Cemetery.
