Violet Mae
Burks
Aug 3, 1935 — Dec 1, 2023
Violet Mae Burks, age 88, passed away on December 1, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, and is now at home with her Lord Jesus Christ. She was born on August 3, 1935, in Center Point, Arkansas, to the late Ernest and Willie Ritchey.
Violet was a dedicated homemaker and a faithful member of Taylor's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Her life was marked by various talents, including sewing and embroidery, gardening, canning, quilting, and a range of craft skills. Her warm and giving nature touched the lives of many, as she generously devoted her time to those in need. Violet's home was always open, especially during the holidays, welcoming anyone her children brough with them. Her greatest joy in life was spending precious moments with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her death was her beloved husband of 62 years, William Gail Burks, as well as her children Steven Ray Burks and Linda Gail Burks. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Willie Ritchey, and sisters Flossie Fite and Maxine Williams.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Carol Abernathy (Malvern) and Laurie Burks (Grand Prairie, TX). Violet is survived by her grandchildren: Hether Embry (Brian), Josh Burks (Ashley), Kevin Abernathy (April), Bradley Hickey (Courtney), Nick Abernathy (Kelly) Ashton Hughes (Brett), great-grandchildren: Christian, Shaun, Avery, Kayla, Lily, Kaylie, Ella, Townes, Milo, Vance, and Auri. She is also survived by her sister Daisy McHenry (Monroe, LA), and brother Roy Ritchie (Hot Springs).
There will be no formal visitation. Violet will be laid to rest at the Arkansas Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at her home, at a later date.
