Magnet Cove
Wayne Smith, age 67, of Magnet Cove, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in his home. He was born on September 15, 1957 in Malvern, AR, the son of Charles Wayne (Cotton) Sr. and Barbara Louise Coston Smith. Wayne was a 1975 graduate of Magnet Cove High School where he excelled in FFA, becoming a lifetime member and earning the American Farm Degree. Wayne worked as a welder for Arkla Gas, and Reynolds for many years before joining the Malvern Fire Department from 1985-2014, serving as Assistant Chief 2004-2014, when he retired. He also was a member of the Malvern Professional Firefighters Local #2276. Wayne faithfully served as a founder and board member of Magnet Cove Volunteer Fire Department from 1980 until the Lord called him home, and also worked for Magnet Butterfield Water as manager from 1999-2019. He was a faithful member and deacon at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church. God gave Wayne an amazingly gifted mind and mechanical skills to visualize how to build, repair, and operate basically anything. He used this gift to serve others first throughout his life. Wayne lived his life as a dedicated Christian public servant, and enjoyed serving the people in his community. He will be missed by many, especially by his extended Fire Department Family.
